5 Things The 2023 4Runner Should Have

The 6th generation 4Runner is slated to come in 2023 and it’s a hotly anticipated machine within the Toyota off-road community. However, we haven’t had much news about the impending SUV so we’ve taken a collection of some of the comments from all of you over the past few months are narrowed it down to 5 features we want to see on the next 4Runner

Generator

Earlier this year I tested the f150 Hybrid with Pro Power Onboard which means it had the 7.2 kW battery. This was my favorite thing about the truck, along with the fuel economy and power. This is something I really want to see in the 2023 4Runner because it would remove the need to get a Jackery or other external power bank.

Cooler

This is typically a feature reserved for more expensive vehicles, but I would like the center console to be cooled and act as a small fridge. This would, again, replace the need to dump another $1,000+ Dometic fridge or something similar. The built in center console fridge would be smaller than the Dometic, but it would at least be something for light campers.

Air Suspension and All Terrain Tires

Air suspension, like the built in fridge, would make the 4Runner a much more luxurious and expensive SUV. It’s incredibly unlikely that Toyota will offer these things, but an air suspension would be nice to offer a lower, more efficient ride height as well as a higher ride height program for off-roading. Along with that we would like to see Toyota, like Jeep, offer a 33 or 35 inch all-terrain tire and wheel package from the factory.

Wireless Apple Car Play

This wouldn’t be such a big deal to add, and is likely the most realistic thing to expect in the 2023 4Runner. However, this is Toyota we’re talking about and the 4Runner didn’t have standard push-button start until 2020…

2023 4Runner Engine Options

This is the biggest unknown, and will continue to be until the official unveil in late 2022, but based on the release of the 2022 Tundra we can expect, at max, a twin-turbo V6 with a 10 speed transmission. More likely is a 2.5L 4 cylinder hybrid engine and a 2.5 liter turbo with the same 10 speed gearbox. Then there’s the full EV conversation, but likely won’t be at the launch year.
