The Chevy Silverado ZR2 Isn’t The Raptor Fighter We Wanted

Well it’s here. This isn’t the first Silverado ZR2 video I’ve done and it probably won’t be the last but guys we gotta talk about this.

Just like we’ve said in previous videos, the ZR2 is the biggest disappointment in the history trucks BUT only if you think of it in terms of Raptor R and TRX.

Yanno, the top Ford spec and top ram spec? But idk why you would compare the top Chevy spec to those. 

So yes, the zr2 doesn’t stack up anywhere near the raptor R or the TRX, but it’s only gunna be like 55k so why would it?

In the mid 50s it’s 10 grand less than even the base raptor with the ecoboost v6.

The ZR2 even comes with a 6.2L v8.

Soooo think of the Silverado ZR2 more of the tundra Trd pro competitor.

The ZR2 comes with the v8 making 420 hp – nice.

460 lbft – nice.

That power goes through a 10 speed gearbox.

But here’s where it gets good:

All ZR2s get a 4wd system – duh.

2 speed transfer case – duh.

BUUUTTTT electric locking rear diff – nice.

Front locking diff – aaawwww yeeeaaahhh.

Then there’s special multimatic spool valve dampers tuned from Baja trucks – WHICH IS APPARENTLY WHAT EVERYONE WANTS NOW.

18 inch wheels wrapped in 33 inch Goodyear wrangler AT tires.

And that’s cool but (everybody hurts) so what’s keeping your ZR2 from getting hurt.

There’s shiny skid plates AND a steel bumper which is what you really want if you’re actually going to off-road. 

The special bumper brings approach angle to almost 32 degrees which is better than the raptor on 35 inches and also more than the TRX.

Departure and break over angles are also very competitive with the raptor and trx eve with the 37-inchers on the raptor.

Towing? 8900.

Payload? 1440. (less than a frontier or tacoma)

But NONE of that is important as the origami tailgate.

The Silverado is not my favorite looking truck but it looks cool in zr2 form.

Black grille.

Red recovery hooks up front.

Black hood bulge.

Special blue paint.

Those 18 inch wheels look cool.

And it’s a pretty normal Silverado around back.

Here’s a fairly big story.

The cabin is refreshed and it’s nice!

It’s not a huge departure from the previous design but the screen is a belittle bigger, the cluster isall screen, and the colors and materials add a little personality.

Wireless car play and android auto.

A standard safety suite but not a lot of autopilot stuff.

And from there the only body style is crew cab so you can bring all your friends .

Now, of course once we have a chance to get behind the wheel we will have more for you all but before we go let’s talk about where this fits .

We talked a lot about this not really being a raptor r fighter or a trx fighter or even a base raptor fighter.

Which leaves the TRD Pro. The current tundra trd pro is 50 grand BUT it’s gunna get A BIGnee gen so I wouldn’t be shocked to see it jump up to 55k which puts it right in line with this ZR2.

Which leaves the question:

Japanese turbo V6 or American n/a V8?
