Despite being the hottest vehicle of 2021, seeing a Bronco on the roads in real life is like seeing…well Sasquatch. And with that Ford wants us to thin the Bronco Raptor is right around the corner?
Production issues, chip shortages, and lots of other stuff has kept the vast majority of people from taking delivery of their Broncos, but that isn’t stopping Ford from rolling out the Bronco Raptor in 2022.
Here’s what we know so far:
Let me preface this by saying, we don’t have an unveil and we don’t have a massive leak, but what we do have is some activity on the forums talking about chassis codes on the configurator.
Bronco6G shares with us some developments on ways you can configure your 2022 Bronco, and it certainly sounds like the big power Baja runner will be here next year…which of course means by 2025.
The standard Bronco comes with either a 2.3 or 2.7 Ecoboost motor. The 2.7 makes 310 hp and 400 lbft which isn’t nothing.
A reasonable assumption would be that the Bronco gets the same 3.5 Ecoboost V6 from the F150 Raptor. That motor is good for 450hp and 510 lbft which would be a nice bump over the 2.7.
HOWEVER, for whatever reason, Motortrend seems to think that motor going in the bronco would be silly and they’re speculating something like the 3.0 ecoboost v6 from the Explorer would be more likely.
That motor makes 400 hp.
And I’m left thinking…WHY?!
Why would Ford NOT put the 3.5 in the Bronco? It can’t be a packaging constraint, it can’t be a gearbox mismatch…it makes no sense.
Idk what Motor Trend is smoking, but we’re talking about the Bronco RAPTOR.
Meanwhile the Wrangler is packing a 6.4L V8 making 470 hp…AND YOURE TELLING ME THAT WE’RE GOING TO PUT A SMALLER ENGINE IN?!?!?
People are already mad that there’s not going to be a V8 in the bronco, and you’re telling me Ford is going to put a smaller engine in than in the F150?? Press X to doubt, Motortrend.
If it’s me, this bronco will get the 3.5…anything less is a disappointment.
We know it’ll get the 10 speed automatic trans and its clever 4×4 system with 4 auto…which is an underrated feature as someone that’s seen what can happen to traditional 4wheel drive vehicles in snow.
Sure Goat modes and all that stuff, but what you’re wanting to hear is this:
Fox live-value shocks, 18 inch beadlock capable wheels, and a 37 inch tire option.
Of course the suspension will be reinforced, axle upgrades, regear, and the fenders flared and for the 37 inch tires if it’s anything like the F150 it’ll have a completely revised chassis.
The bronco raptor will only come in 4 door body style, similar to the f150 only coming in crew cab.
And then from there the Bronco raptor will come with some additional funky colors like eruption green, hot pepper red, code orange, and desert sand.
Final thing is, thanks to our friends on the forums, we know that this thing will NOT be called the Warthog.
However, Ford has trademarked the bronco raptor and warthog names so he’s my speculation.
I know earlier in the video I said there wouldn’t be a v8 in the Bronco BUT what if Ford shoves the predator engine in this and that’s what they call the Warthog?
There’s like a 1% chance that this happens, but dang would that be cool.
